Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Institute of Engineering & Technology (ABVGIET), Pragatinagar, Shimla (H.P) was established on 10th April 2011 with the aim of providing quality higher education at par with international standards. This Institute is located at Pragatinagar on the bank of river Giri Ganga about 61 km from Shimla on Shimla-Rohru National Highway. The campus of the institute is spread over 123.4 Bighas of lush green land surrounded by beautiful Apple Valley. The environment here is quite congenial for studies, as it is isolated from the hustle and bustle of city life. In this Institute, the only one of its kind to be opened by a state government, Degree, Diploma and Certificate programs are being run successfully under the same roof.

Empowerment of our students with a unique blend of educational and extra-curricular activities for their overall development is our cherished motto. Today education means much more than merely acquiring knowledge, rather it is an acquisition of knowledge and skills, building character, and improving the employability of our young talent, who are going to be our future leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

Till October 2024, a total of about 130 Crores of Rupees worth of infrastructural works have either been completed or undergoing at present. During the year 2023, the institute got about 46 Crores of Rupees of Administrative approval from the Government for infrastructural development works. As per the master plan, till now Institute B. Tech wing building has been completed and inaugurated. The cafeteria building has also been inaugurated and made operational in the 2023-24 session. The major achievement was the creation of a new state of art auditorium hall having a seating capacity of above 600 and an LED screen-aided stage with modern audio equipment which was also inaugurated in 2023 and dedicated to students. A sports facility consisting of a state-of-the-art basketball court and volleyball courts along with stairs for seating arrangements has also been completed and dedicated in 2024 for the benefit of students.

Under the modernization of academic infrastructure facilities, major development works initiated and completed include the creation of a new library, new Chemistry labs, and mechanical workshops with better space and facilities. Also, various labs and workshops were equipped with new furniture and equipment. A new conference hall and seminar hall facility were also created in the institute for conducting various meetings and seminars. To create a sense of discipline and responsibility among students, NCC units from the NCC Rampur division were also opened in our institute. The ongoing construction works of the boys’ hostel, ITI wing building, and type-IV residences buildings also are expected to be completed by this year's end.

Because of our painstakingly developed ABVGIET culture, which offers a unique amalgamation of educational, ethical, and creative pursuits; we have inherited a strong foundation to march ahead and achieve our educational objectives for a stronger and brighter India. Measures initiated by the Government, steps taken by the college administration, the willing contribution of the teaching and non-teaching staff, and the overwhelming response and enthusiastic participation of my dear students in the college activities, the expected results are bound to come true. I wish all the best to my students, faculty, and staff members.
